Community Mental Health Nursing
QARNNS working in the Royal Naval Mental Health Services (RNMHS) provide an occupationally focused assessment, advice, treatment and psycho educational service to all military personnel. On joining or completion of training you will work within one of the Departments of Community Mental Health (DCMH) within one of the Royal Navy Base Port areas (Portsmouth, Plymouth and Faslane). As a member of the team you will also be given the opportunity to work autonomously in a variety of other locations including the Operational environment.
As an occupationally focused service, we see personnel at a much earlier stage of difficulty than the NHS. Therefore positive outcomes from treatment are more likely, which is more rewarding for the individual the clinician and the service.
Professionally you will be encouraged to work towards becoming a Specialist Nurse in one of the identified areas of mental health.
Operationally you will be part of a Mental Health team deployed on the Primary Casualty Receiving Facility (PCRF), RFA ARGUS, where you will develop your Maritime understanding of the role of a mental health nurse deployed. There will also be opportunities for you to be part of LAND based Operations providing mental health support as part of the Field Mental Health Teams (FMHT).
