Burns & Plastics Nursing
QARNNS working in Burns and Plastics (B+P) Nursing are employed to provide specialist nursing care and advice to both in the deployed and Role 4 setting in the Royal Centre of Defence Medicine based in Birmingham.
On joining or completion of your B+P specialist nursing course you will be employed within Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham in the specialist Burns Centre and as part of a military burns outreach service. The service provides expert clinical care and advice through a bespoke wound care service to both complex military and civilian patients, in addition to providing expert advice to support the deployed clinical team.
The Burn Centre cares for burns patients in a recognised regional centre providing military nurses with the opportunity to develop their B&P skills, competencies and to maintain their practice. It also provides practical experience for military nurses who are undertaking their specialist training in B&P nursing.
Operationally you will be deployed as a member of the Primary Casualty Receiving Facility (PCRF)nursing team on board RFA Argus, providing the highest standards of clinical care and advice in the deployed setting. A deployed QARNNS B&P nurse is a 24/7 role which delivers burns subject matter expert advice to all areas of the hospital. You act as an adviser to all ward areas and the Emergency Department and are an integral part of both the surgical and theatre teams. There will also be opportunity to deploy in the LAND environment.
